One Year Ago Today, Lori Chavez-DeRemer Voted To Cut Veterans’ Health Care, Gut Jobs, and Jeopardize Funding For Law Enforcement

One year ago today, Lori Chavez-DeRemer passed the Default on America Act – far-right legislation that risked the safety and security of American families and nearly forced the U.S. to default on its debts.

Had House Democrats not saved our country from a catastrophic default, the extreme MAGA Republican wish-list backed by Chavez-DeRemer would have:

  • Gutted funding for veterans’ health care by 22 percent – resulting in nearly 81,000 fewer health service jobs and 30 million fewer veteran outpatient visits;

  • Jeopardized over 142,000 manufacturing jobs;

  • Increased taxes on everyday families and raised energy prices,

  • Risked thousands of children losing their teachers and a quality education;

  • Threatened working families who depend on food assistance programs and Medicaid;

  • Jeopardized law enforcement funding, and more.

The 118th Congress has been mired in chaos, crisis, and confusion. Thanks to Chavez-DeRemer, history will remember this Congress as the least productive in modern American history

DCCC Spokesperson Dan Gottlieb:
“Lori Chavez-DeRemer will continue to face the consequences of joining extremists like Marjorie Taylor Greene to support a plan that would have cut veterans’ health benefits, raised costs, and threatened the safety of families across Oregon. In the past year, Chavez-DeRemer refused to break from her party’s extremism when it mattered most – which has all but halted the business of our government, and made it harder to meet the needs of working and middle-class families.”
