One year ago today, vulnerable New York Republican Nick LaLota passed the Default on America Act, far-right legislation that risked the safety and security of American families, nearly forcing the U.S. to default on its debts.
Had House Democrats not saved our country from a catastrophic default, the extreme MAGA Republican wish-list backed by LaLota would have:
Gutted funding for veterans’ health care by 22 percent – resulting in nearly 81,000 fewer health service jobs and 30 million fewer veteran outpatient visits;
The 118th Congress has been mired in chaos, crisis, and confusion. Thanks to Nick LaLota, history will remember this Congress being the least productive in modern American history.
DCCC Spokesperson Ellie Dougherty:
“Nick LaLota will continue to face the consequences for joining extremists like Marjorie Taylor Greene to support a plan that would have cut veterans’ health benefits, raised costs, and threatened the safety of Suffolk County families. Since then, LaLota has refused to break from the extremism that has all but halted the business of our government to meet the needs of working and middle class families.”
