ONE YEAR AGO TODAY: Rob Bresnahan Complained He’d “Lose Money and Go Broke” If He Stopped Trading Stocks in Congress

It’s been one year since vulnerable Republican Congressman Rob Bresnahan said the quiet part out loud: he’s focused on boosting his own bottom line while he votes to unleash higher prices on everybody else.

After campaigning on a promise to ban congressional stock trading, Bresnahan said  in an interview with WVIA that he would not stop stock trading because he didn’t want to “lose money and go broke.” WVIA reported on July 31, 2025:

Theoretically, Bresnahan could order his financial advisers to stop trading his stocks, but he does not plan to do that.

“And then do what with it?” he asked in an interview with WVIA News this week. “Just leave it all in the accounts and just leave it there and lose money and go broke?”

DCCC Spokesperson Eli Cousin:
“Rob Bresnahan admitted on tape, in his own words, that he is looking out for his own bottom line while voting to unleash higher prices on Northeastern Pennsylvanians. Bresnahan will have all the time in the world to trade stocks once Paige Cognetti beats him in November.”
