One Year Ago Today, Vulnerable House Republicans Voted To Cut Veterans’ Health Care, Gut Jobs, and Jeopardize Funding For Law Enforcement

One year ago today, House Republicans passed the Default on America Act, far-right legislation that risked the safety and security of American families, nearly forcing the U.S. to default on its debts.

Had House Democrats not saved our country from a catastrophic default, the extreme MAGA Republican wish-list backed by every single vulnerable Republican would have:

  • Gutted funding for veterans’ health care by 22 percent – resulting in nearly 81,000 fewer health service jobs and 30 million fewer veteran outpatient visits;

  • Jeopardized over 142,000 manufacturing jobs;

  • Increased taxes on everyday families and raised energy prices,

  • Risked thousands of children losing their teachers and a quality education;

  • Threatened working families who depend on food assistance programs and Medicaid;

  • Jeopardized law enforcement funding, and more.

The 118th Congress has been mired in chaos, crisis, and confusion. Thanks to the extreme Republican majority, history will remember this Congress being the least productive in modern American history.

DCCC Spokesperson Viet Shelton:
“Vulnerable Republicans will continue to face the consequences for joining extremists like Marjorie Taylor Greene to support a plan that would have cut veterans’ health benefits, raise costs for everyday families, and threaten community safety. Since then, these so-called moderate House Republicans have refused to break from the extremism that has all but halted the business of our government to meet the needs of working and middle class families.”
