House Democrats believe everyone deserves a fair shot at the American Dream. That’s why we’re fighting for everyday folks by lowering costs, tackling the rural health care crisis, and taking on government corruption that has left rural communities behind. Republicans in Congress have passed policy after policy that has failed rural communities, strained small businesses, farmers, and honest hardworking folks, all while giving handouts to rich friends and corporate donors, and putting foreign countries before small-town communities.

Republicans in Congress have failed rural America and it’s past time that we send candidates that understand and actually value our communities to Washington.

Rural health care has been struggling for decades, and Republicans in Congress have turned it into a full blown crisis.

Republicans in Congress are on track to kick millions of Americans off their health insurance by passing the largest Medicaid cuts in history and sent monthly premiums soaring after eliminating ACA tax credits in order to give tax cuts to the richest people and corporations. Rather than saving the 300 rural hospitals currently facing immediate closures, Republicans gutted the funding rural hospitals rely on putting 700 rural hospitals at risk of closing. That’s nearly one-third of all rural hospitals in the country.

Democrats are fighting to protect, restore, and expand rural health care, lower health care costs and premiums, keep rural hospitals running, and ensure that no one has to drive hours to see a doctor or get basic and essential care.

Republicans campaigned on lower costs and more money in our pockets. More than a year in, they have rubber-stamped failed policies and chaotic trade and forever wars that have sent food, gas, and fertilizers prices soaring, utility and rural housing costs are at historic highs, and have crushed Main Street small businesses.

While Republicans prioritize tax cuts for billionaires, Democrats’ number one priority is supporting working families, and will work to bring down the costs that are making rural America increasingly unaffordable.

Politicians have turned a blind eye while D.C. insiders get rich off corrupt back room deals that have given everyday Americans the short end of every stick. Democrats believe that if you work hard in America, you should be able to get ahead. Democrats are focused on rooting out the special interests, corruption, and waste in government so it finally works for rural communities, rewards hard work and does not just give handouts to elitist insiders.

Democrats have twice passed a bill to fix our campaign finance system, reduce the role money plays in our elections, and add more ethical standards for members – every Republican voted against it. Democrats will stop politicians who line their pockets instead of working for us, hold D.C. politicians accountable for their backroom deals, and will keep holding town halls to hear directly from the American people.
