Paul Junge and Matthew Seely Race Each Other to the Far Right in MI-08 GOP Primary

Extremists Junge and Seely continue to push one another toward the fringe to prove who is most out of touch with mid-Michigan

The GOP is gearing up for a bruising primary in Michigan’s 8th District as Paul Junge and Matthew Seely fight one another for the “Ultra MAGA” title.

Last week, the Michigan Trump Republicans PAC endorsed Seely, a far-right political liability and MAGA activist who has frequently posted inflammatory images mocking sexual assault victims and objectifying women.

Not to be outdone, Junge has bankrolled his own campaign with $1 million and doubled down on out-of-touch positions to shore up his far-right bona fides.

Although Seely called Junge “a Mitt Romney Republican at best,” Junge is no moderate. Junge claimed Roe v. Wade created “made-up rights” and opposes abortion with no exceptions for rape and incest, a position far out of step with the majority of Michiganders.

“Both Paul Junge and Matthew Seely are radical extremists fighting to prove their MAGA allegiance to GOP primary voters,” said DCCC spokesperson Helen Kalla. “Whoever makes it out of this race to the right will be rejected by mid-Michigan voters this fall.”
