Last night, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump shockingly called for barring all Muslims from entering the United States – including Muslim-Americans traveling overseas. Even Dick Cheney was appalled, saying “it goes against everything we believe in.”
But today, when asked if Speaker Paul Ryan would still support Donald Trump for president in light of these abhorrent, bigoted remarks, he doubled down to say that “I’m going to support whoever the Republican nominee is.”
“Speaker Paul Ryan is supposed to be a leader of the House of Representatives and the country, yet he just doubled down on Donald Trump for President, even after his hateful remarks towards Muslim-Americans. Paul Ryan is either conservative enough that he supports Donald Trump’s position behind closed doors, or he is too much of a coward to stand up to the ugly presence of Donald Trump and his power within the Republican Party,” said Meredith Kelly of the DCCC.
