The Paul Ryan Road Show Has Been a Disaster

Retiring Speaker Paul Ryan took his toxic agenda on the road this week to campaign for vulnerable House Republicans and it was nothing short of a disaster.

He was brutally fact checked live during an interview with Rep. John Faso for pretending his Repeal & Ripoff healthcare bill wouldn’t have gut coverage for pre-existing conditions. Watch here.

At every stop, Democratic challengers and fed-up constituents made it clear that although Ryan may be jumping ship, vulnerable Republicans will be held accountable for his disastrous agenda.

Take a look at the coverage below:

Former Assistant Secretary of State Tom Malinowski’s campaign bashed Rep. Leonard Lance over his support of House Speaker Paul Ryan a day before the Republican leader comes to the state to Stump for Assemblyman Jay Webber and fundraise for Lance and Rep. Tom MacArthur.

“Leonard Lance is a dependable Republican vote in Congress. He votes with them 90% of the time and is endorsed by the Tea Party. Paul Ryan can rely on Lance supporting his priorities,” said Benji Schwartz, Malinowski Communications Director. “That’s why Ryan’s super PAC has already spent more than 3 million dollars on advertising to protect Lance’s seat. But his dishonest ads aren’t working, so now he’s here himself to prop up Lance’s anemic fundraising efforts.”

  • NJ-11: New Jersey Globe: Sherrill says Ryan has ‘punished New Jersey families’

Democrat Mikie Sherrill today bashed GOP rival Jay Webber for bringing House Speaker Paul Ryan to New Jersey’s 11th district.

“It is not surprising that Assemblyman Webber would bring the architect of the tax hike bill to our community,” said Sherrill, a former U.S. Navy helicopter pilot and federal prosecutor. “While Speaker Ryan punished New Jersey families, slashing the state and local tax deduction and threatening the future of Social Security and Medicare, Assemblyman Webber stood in lock step with his Washington agenda.”

  • NJ-11: Star-Ledger: Paul Ryan jabs at ‘Montclair Mikie’ in campaign event, says GOP is counting on N.J.

In some ways, the presence of the Speaker – the man who is second in line to the presidency – was a bigger story than anything he said. In years past, the notion that the Republican running for Congress in northwest New Jersey would need help from the party leader to rev up the base would have been unthinkable.

Times have changed in a big way.

No longer the prohibitive favorite, as most Republicans have been, Webber acknowledged that he’s in an awfully tough race.

  • NY-21/22/24: CNY: Paul Ryan visit to CNY criticized by protesters, Democratic candidates

“When he was working to pass the GOP tax bill, he told us before that bill even passed that the next thing on his agenda was cutting social security, medicare and medicaid,” Balter told CNYCentral. “So for John Katko to invite him here to the district and stand with him I think sends a very strong message to the voters that John Katko stands with the architect of that program.”

[…] Brindisi told CNYCentral that Ryan’s visit for Tenney represents what he calls “a tale of two campaigns.”

“The contrast couldn’t be clearer,” Brindisi said. “While I’m holding an open forum with seniors to discuss how we can protect their benefits, Claudia Tenney is holding a fancy fundraiser with the person leading the charge to cut these programs. It’s sickening.”
