House Republicans Must Deal Each Day With Trump, Who Shows Zero Signs of “Acting more Presidential”

Desperate Republicans stuck on the Trump ticket have been musing about Trump earning their vote and the potential for a moderate pivot from Trump now that he is the Republican nominee. Over the past week, Trump has clarified that a pivot away from the reckless, bigoted, and bizarre is nothing more than a pipe dream.

Paul Ryan can continue his too little, too late plea for unity and more Presidential behavior from Donald Trump, but that will not protect vulnerable House Republicans who are forced to answer for their standard bearer’s unpredictable and offensive behavior each and every day. Just in the last week since becoming the effective leader of the Republican Party, Trump has casually suggested defaulting on our debt, selected a White Nationalist Leader as one his delegates, and most recently, doubled down on his disgusting attacks on former prisoner of war Senator John McCain.

“Donald Trump comes at a serious cost for vulnerable House Republicans, who will have to answer for his unpredictable and bigoted comments every day until the election.  This week alone, Republicans are tied to Trump embracing a disastrous debt default, dabbling in white nationalism, and doubling down on vicious attacks against a former prisoner of war. And to be clear, Paul Ryan’s song and dance does nothing to protect them,” said Meredith Kelly of the DCCC.
