Pete Stauber & Greg Walden Love Raising Your Healthcare Costs

Republican hand-picked candidate Pete Stauber has already proven he’ll do whatever his Party bosses tell him to do. So it’s no wonder he’s bringing in Rep. Greg Walden, former NRCC Chair and Chair of the Energy and Commerce Committee, who was a key architect of the Republican bill that would raise healthcare costs, impose an age tax on seniors and gut protections for those with pre-existing conditions, while pocketing more than a million from big PHARMA.

Stauber has his own record of raising county healthcare premiums on Minnesota residents. As Saint Louis County Commissioner, Stauber voted to increase health care premiums for Minnesota families by 8 percent.

The DCCC released the following statement calling on Stauber to stand up for Minnesotans and the more than 270,000 people impacted by pre-existing conditions in the 8th district.

“Pete Stauber has betrayed hardworking Minnesotans at every turn,” said DCCC Spokeswoman Rachel Irwin. “Stauber is clearly willing to turn his back on his constituents in order to advance his own political career. Stauber should stand up to his Party’s sustained attacks on healthcare and those with pre-existing conditions instead of embracing the worst of the Republican agenda. With Pete Stauber and Greg Walden in Washington, Minnesotans would pay the price as insurance companies laugh all the way to the bank.”

Stauber has also praised the Republican tax scam that capped the amount of money that Minnesota homeowners can deduct for state and local taxes, repealed a key provision of the Affordable Care Act that will result in Minnesotans paying more for health care, and incentivizes corporations to ship jobs overseas. The GOP tax scam blew a $1.9 trillion hole in the deficit, and Speaker Paul Ryan and Washington Republicans have made clear that they are willing to cut Medicare and Social Security to offset their massive giveaway to corporations and the wealthy. Over 80% of the tax cuts go to the wealthiest 1% of Americans.
