| New reporting reveals that Albany insider Peter Oberacker has repeatedly failed to disclose his personal finances to Upstate voters — blowing past multiple federal deadlines to do so.
Federal law is clear: candidates have to tell voters where their money comes from. But Oberacker’s late filings are just the tip of the iceberg of a years-long pattern of hiding his private business dealings from voters.
Across five separate state filings from 2020 to 2024, Oberacker failed to report any involvement in Sparrow Hawk Vineyards, the winery he has owned for six years.
Otsego County hit Sparrow Hawk with a stop-work order after finding the property had no building permit on file, and it wasn’t until 2026 that Oberacker finally disclosed his connection to the winery on his already delinquent financial report.
REMINDER: When the Freeman’s Journal published Letters to the Editor about Sparrow Hawk’s repeated permit violations, their owner’s response was to sue the local paper for defamation.
