Rep. Peter Roskam’s re-election chances are considered a Toss Up by non-partisan election forecaster Cook Political Report in part because the district is changing quickly underneath Roskam’s feet – it voted against President Trump and the president is deeply unpopular there.
But Roskam hasn’t made it any easier on himself by voting the party line 96% of the time and piloting the GOP tax scam that will raise taxes on middle class families in his own district.
Now there is another clear obstacle to Peter Roskam’s chances of staying in Congress: the top of the ticket in Illinois.
Governor Bruce Rauner is one of the least popular governors in America. A poll released last week showed that only 26% of Illinois voters have a favorable opinion of him, while a whopping 63% have an unfavorable opinion.
But the alternative is State Rep. Jeanne Ives, who is so extreme that it looks like Peter Roskam may have deleted an entire page from his website just to disassociate himself with her support.
Talk about a rock and a hard place.
So now that Peter Roskam is in the race of his life, this all begs the question: when Peter Roskam needs to call in the cavalry, who would he rather campaign with, toxic Bruce Rauner, extreme Jeanne Ives, or Donald Trump?
