Today, in a recorded editorial board meeting with Crain’s Chicago Business, vulnerable Rep. Peter Roskam said he has no regrets when voting for the Republican Repeal & Ripoff health care bill, which has 8 percent support among Americans recently polled by the Kaiser Family Foundation.
“Today, Peter Roskam doubled down on his heartless vote to strip away health care from hundreds of thousands of Illinoisans, including 30,000 of his constituents,” said DCCC spokesperson Rachel Irwin. “Peter Roskam may not regret his vote to slap an age tax on Illinois seniors or to penalize those with pre-existing conditions, but his constituents will remember. Peter Roskam’s shameless support of this bill proves just how out-of-touch he is with the people of Illinois.”
According to the Congressional Budget Office, the bill would result in 23 million Americans losing their insurance nationwide, but the bill’s impact is just as eye popping in Illinois:
- 710,200 Illinoisans will lose their health insurance, including 30,600 in Peter Roskam’s district.
- $698 premium increases in Illinois.
- $346,910,018 in increased costs to hospitals for uncompensated care in Illinois.
