Pharma-Funded Ads to Miller-Meeks: “Thanks for Delivering” for Us, After Miller-Meeks Bragged Pharma Will Benefit from Her Votes

A new ad is running today thanking Mariannette Miller-Meeks for “delivering for us” – and it’s funded by a dark money group consisting of $15 million in cash from PhRMA over the past several years.

It’s no surprise that Big Pharma and its allies are thanking Miller-Meeks for working for them. In her own words, Miller-Meeks said that “pharmaceutical companies are one that’s gonna benefit” from the Big, Ugly Law and brags about “keeping the corporate interest rate down” for big business.

Miller-Meeks: “But more importantly, [the Big, Ugly Law] helps any kind of company, and pharmaceutical companies are one that’s gonna benefit.”

DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“It’s no surprise that Miller-Meeks is getting an A+ for selling out Iowans to the highest bidder: she is hard at work for big pharma, the health insurance companies, and the special interests who cut her campaign checks, not for Iowans.”

Reminder of Miller-Meeks’ long record of putting Big Pharma, health insurance companies, and the special interests ahead of Iowans:

  • Miller-Meeks has taken more than $300,000 from the pharmaceutical industry and health insurance industries.
  • Recent bombshell reporting exposed Miller-Meeks for renting a D.C. condo from two lobbyists whose firm made millions working for PhRMA, while Miller-Meeks sat on a subcommittee overseeing drug pricing issues.
  • Miller-Meeks voted against capping insulin prices on the *same day* that she took money from an insulin manufacturer.
  • While she was fighting against health care tax credits for Iowa families, Miller-Meeks took tens of thousands of dollars from insurance companies.
  • Miller-Meeks said higher health care costs mean that Iowans have “some skin in the game” and are incentivized to stay healthier and not overuse their doctor.
