Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Editorial Board: Stop Attacking the ACA

Congressmen Mike Kelly and Scott Perry aren’t letting up their attacks on Pennsylvanians’ health care. They both voted for the disastrous Republican health care plan that would have spiked costs and slashed coverage AND they continue to support a lawsuit to repeal our current health care system. If Kelly and Perry are successful, 858,000 Pennsylvanians would lose insurance, protections for people with pre-existing conditions would be gutted, and coverage would be limited for maternity care, prescription drugs, and mental health care for millions of Americans.

It’s no surprise, then, that the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette editorial board took Kelly, Perry, and their legal effort to dismantle Pennsylvanians’ health care system to task.

From the editorial:

A recent federal appeals court ruling puts the law and popular provisions such as guaranteed coverage of pre-existing conditions in jeopardy. The appeals court ordered the judge to reconsider whether every aspect of the law must be struck down, making it urgent that Congress and the president come up with a law to replace Obamacare or restore its essential provisions should they be ruled out of existence.

Private health insurers are seeking $12 billion in compensation for losses the law promised the federal government would cover under the Affordable Care Act. The companies acted in good faith under the 2010 law’s promise of compensation for providing coverage at reasonable rates to people denied insurance because of pre-existing medical conditions.

“People in Congressmen Kelly and Perry’s districts are noticing their repeated attacks on Pennsylvanians’ health care,” said DCCC Spokeswoman Courtney Rice. “By continuing to support Washington Republican efforts to dismantle our health care system and force people with pre-existing conditions to pay more for their care, they’re showing Pennsylvanians that they’d rather toe the party line than stand up for the people they’re supposed to represent.”
