Politico visits TX-22 and finds lots of Houstonians who aren’t taking kindly to Pierce Bush’s latest reinvention of himself
With one week to go until Election Day in Texas, the Pierce Bush for Congress misadventure is spiraling over real questions about Bush’s viability and conservative credentials.
In a report from Texas’ diverse and quickly changing 22nd Congressional District, Politico found a “very real chance Bush gets boxed out” by hardline pro-Trump conservative candidates Kathaleen Wall and Troy Nehls.
Home to the nation’s largest, messiest and most expensive GOP primary, Republican voters in toss-up TX-22 won’t take kindly to Bush’s admission that he didn’t even vote for President Trump in 2016.
From marching against Trump to his visible discomfort defending the president’s record to today’s revelations, Pierce Bush’s 11th-hour conversion to a full-blown Trump supporter isn’t fooling Republicans and is making him toxic among the moderate and swing voters any Republican will need to win in this rapidly-diversifying district where “only 41 percent of the district’s residents are white.”
Even in Texas, there’s danger in running as a Bush in the Trump era.
