Clinton leads Trump 50% to 33%
New polling data from Tulchin Research shows Dr. Ami Bera opening up an 11-point lead – 50 percent to 39 percent – over his opponent Scott Jones in California’s 7th Congressional District race.
The poll was conducted after an Access Hollywood tape exposed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump bragging about sexual assault. The poll also comes after several weeks of television ads highlighting serious sexual harassment allegations against Jones from a 26-year-old deputy. The first of these ads was rated “True” by the Sacramento Bee. Today PolitiFact rated Jones’ defense – that the “allegations…were found by two separate judges to not have merit” – as “False.”
Tulchin Research also released the findings of polls from July and September, demonstrating the dramatic shift in voter attitudes since learning about these allegations. In just one month, Jones lost 8 points in the vote and his image suffered a net 16-point loss.
The presidential vote also shifted with a net 14-point move in Hillary Clinton’s direction since September.
“As controversies over their treatment of women engulf both Donald Trump and Scott Jones, voters are rightly turning away from these candidates,” said Barb Solish of the DCCC. “As voters learn more about Trump’s and Jones’ pattern of disrespect towards women, they will definitively decide that both are unfit to serve them in Washington.”
