Hard working Nevadans are tired of Republicans making their lives worse: from sky-high groceries, to health care costs, to pain at the pump. Now, voters in Nevada’s Second Congressional District are gearing up for change.
From new polling showing Democrats “within striking distance of Republican David Flippo,” and non-partisan race raters shifting their prediction for NV-02 away from Republicans, “Democrats are touting momentum in their direction.”
And Republicans’ chances are looking more bleak by the minute, as ”The seat’s current occupant — Republican Rep. Mark Amodei — has made clear he doesn’t support Flippo,” and the Nevada Republican party denying request for comment on Democrats’ growing momentum.

“Northern Nevadans are sick and tired of Republicans leaving them behind. This November, Nevadans will strongly reject Republicans at the ballot box, and flip NV-02 blue.”

- With Nevada’s 2026 general election less than two months away, Democrats are touting momentum in their direction in two key races.
- While a Democrat winning is still a long shot, a new poll shows Democrat Teresa Benitez-Thompson within striking distance of Republican David Flippo.
- A national election forecaster also just moved its CD2 rating in Democrats’ direction, and a famed statistician says CD2 is Nevada’s most competitive race among its four U.S. House races. To be considered most competitive is a surprise given Democrats have never won the seat.
- “This growing Democratic momentum across Nevada is a reflection of voters’ frustration at Nevada Republicans’ Trump-first agenda that is jacking up costs and making life harder,” said Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Asaf Grofman in a statement. “Democrats have a plan to lower costs for working families and push back against Trump and his MAGA minions. It’s why we have an opportunity to flip the Northern Nevada congressional seat for the first time ever.”
- The Nevada Republican Party did not respond to request for comment.
- The odds strongly favor Flippo in Nevada’s CD2 representing the state’s top half where Republicans outnumber Democrats by about 72,000.
- But Benitez-Thompson is making a race of it for the first time in about two decades.
- The seat’s current occupant — Republican Rep. Mark Amodei — has made clear he doesn’t support Flippo, and Benitez-Thompson is campaigning hard in the mostly rural district that stretches from Reno to Elko.
- Flippo touts endorsements from President Donald Trump as well as Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo, who’s doing well in the polls for his own reelection bid.
- Polling momentum: A poll conducted on behalf of Benitez-Thompson’s campaign shows her 3 points behind Flippo: 42% to 45%. The poll’s margin of error is 4.9 percentage points.
- Forecast momentum: Meanwhile, on Aug. 20, the national forecaster Inside Elections changed its rating for Nevada’s CD2 from “solid” Republican to “likely” Republican…
- “Under normal circumstances the 2nd District shouldn’t be competitive for Democrats,” the forecaster wrote in a report to subscribers. “But the combination of a favorable political environment and unique candidate dynamics is making the vast, rural seat look at least a little interesting.”
