Morning Consult/Politico: “half of all voters blame the new wave of infections that have sent numbers spiking equally on the unvaccinated and on political leaders opposed to mask-wearing and social-distancing mandates.”
America is experiencing record job and wage growth, businesses reopening, and a historic economic bounceback thanks to President Biden and House Democrats’ American Rescue Plan. But a surge in Delta variant COVID-19 cases among unvaccinated Americans is threatening America’s health and economic progress.
As Republicans’ dangerous lies threaten our progress, they’ve even taken to attacking scientists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. According to a CNN Report, Republicans are weaponizing the fears and frustration of Americans in hopes to make political gains — putting politics over protecting American families. And it may backfire next November: According to a MorningConsult/Politico Poll, 8 in 10 Democrats and half of all Independents strongly support precautions like vaccinations and mask wearing.
“Extremist Ringleader Kevin McCarthy and House Republicans are amplifying and peddling lies about the efficacy of masks, vaccines, and commonsense health precautions instead of focusing on saving American lives and protecting our economic progress,” said DCCC Spokesperson Chris Taylor. “They’re making the cynical bet that misleading a sliver of the American public is better politics — our bet is that that’s bad for America and bad at the ballot box.”
Extremist House Republicans Pushing Deadly COVID-19 Lies and Threatening America’s Health and Economic Progress:
CA-25: Punchbowl News called Rep. Mike Garcia out for peddling dangerous anti-vaccine rhetoric when responding to one of Biden’s pro-vaccine tweets with: “This is dangerous. At this point, infection & transmission rates are extremely low & virtually all Americans have access to the vaccine. Everyone who wants to be vaccinated can be. We can’t continue to infringe upon people’s Constitutional rights under the guise of public health.”
GA-07: Republican candidate Rich McCormick downplayed the danger of the delta variant as hospitalizations were on the rise in Georgia, falsely claiming that “the spike in cases has been ‘overblown.’” In the same interview, McCormick said it “makes no sense” to “[vaccinate] people to protect other people who are unvaccinated.” What’s worse? McCormick is an emergency room doctor — and it’s clear he hasn’t taken any lessons from 2020, when he lost his congressional campaign after pushing lies and disinformation about the deadly pandemic.
TX-15: As the delta variant leads to a devastating spike in new COVID-19 cases across Texas, local outlets in the Rio Grande Valley are making sure Texans know that Republican congressional candidate Monica De La Cruz Hernandez failed an Associated Press fact check after she “spread false claims” about a COVID-19 vaccine information campaign.
IA-02: Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks repeatedly and falsely said that children do not spread COVID-19 — a claim which runs contrary to CDC guidance and was fact-checked as false by her local newspaper. Miller-Meeks previously promoted President Trump’s dangerous guidance to take hydroxychloroquine as a COVID-19 treatment.
PA-10: Rep. Scott Perry spread lies that have been fact-checked about the safety of the vaccines. Perry refused to encourage his constituents to get vaccinated and even mocked President Biden for alerting the public that unvaccinated Americans can die from the virus. He even signed onto a bill with Marjorie Taylor Greene to defund schools that require vaccinations.
PA-08: GOP candidate Teddy Daniels misled voters on attempts to vaccinate Americans, insinuating violence against those attempting to vaccinate those in need. Daniels also claimed falsely that those already infected with COVID-19 didn’t need to vaccinate because they were already safe from the virus.
NM-02: The Las Cruces Sun-Times criticized Yvette Herrelle’s push to essentially ban businesses from providing a “safe environment and safe access” for their employees and those with compromised immune systems.
