POLLING ROUNDUP: Americans Overwhelmingly Oppose Repeal & Ripoff; Paul Ryan Continues to Nose Dive

NBC: “The Affordable Care Act is now more popular than it was throughout Obama’s presidency, and support for a complete elimination of the law remains at its lowest.”

In case you missed it, two recent national polls have put an exclamation point on the political disaster that awaits Republicans as they pursue another attempted repeal.

Here are some clear polling trends from the latest data:

  • Paul Ryan’s approval rating is in a free-fall.
    • At the end of March, Ryan’s approval had dropped down to mere 33%.
    • Now, Ryan faces a shockingly low 22% favorability rating (-18% underwater).
    • Adding insult to injury, NBC measured the favorability of 11 political figures and institutions…and Ryan came in dead last.
  • Americans want the Affordable Care Act to be improved, not repealed.
    • ABC poll: 61% of Americans want to keep the Affordable Care Act.
    • ABC Poll: 71% would like President Trump to make the existing law work.
    • ABC poll: 55% of conservatives want a “nationwide standard for coverage of pre-existing conditions.
    • NBC poll: 51% like the ACA the way it is or just want minor improvements.
  • Americans don’t trust Republicans on healthcare.
    • NBC poll: 50% of people have little to no confidence that Republican plans to repeal and replace the ACA will improve things.
    • NBC poll: 31% view the Republican Party favorably.
    • ABC poll: by a margin of 43-26, Americans would rather Trump work with Democrats instead of conservatives on healthcare.
  • The Democratic Party is more popular than the Republican Party.
    • NBC poll: Democratic Party is 11 points more popular than the Republican Party…and this is supposed to be President Trump’s honeymoon.

“The American people don’t like Paul Ryan, and they like his reckless repeal bill even less,” said DCCC Spokesman Tyler Law.
