Post-Roe, Californians Deserve to Know: Why Did Ken Calvert Fail to Protect Reproductive Care, Threatening Women’s Access to IVF?

As families in Alabama are coping with the painful blow to reproductive care from the state Supreme Court’s latest ruling, Republican Ken Calvert is trying to distract from his own extreme voting record.

It’s no wonder why. Just weeks ago, Calvert voted for two anti-choice bills that would use federal funds to spread misinformation and prevent vulnerable communities from seeking essential reproductive care – after signing an amicus brief to the Supreme Court asking them to overturn Roe v. Wade and voting against the Women’s Health Protection Act.

With the Life at Conception Act, House Republicans are on a mission to impose similar restrictions on IVF and fertility treatments as the Alabama Supreme Court ruling – and ban abortion nationwide without exceptions in cases of rape or incest.

The overturning of Roe v. Wade opened the door to banning abortion nationwide, and restricting IVF treatment. So Californians deserve to know: why didn’t Ken Calvert protect Roe when he had the chance?

DCCC Spokesperson Dan Gottlieb:
“While it’s no surprise that Ken Calvert is doubling down on his hypocrisy around banning access to reproductive care, it’s shocking that he thinks Californians will believe him. Time and again, Calvert has refused to protect the freedoms of California women, no matter how aggressive the attacks – and voters will hold him accountable for it this November.”
