| Donald Trump is once again heading to Nevada in a desperate attempt to sell his flailing economy and reckless, cost-hiking agenda. Just like this past April, Trump is sure to be met with a “skeptical audience” as Nevadans grapple with sky-high costs, fewer shifts, and smaller tips – all thanks to Trump and D.C. Republicans’ disastrous policies.
Instead of distancing themselves, Nevada Republicans Carrie Buck, Marty O’Donnell, and Cody Whipple are gluing themselves to Trump and his tanking economy – a telltale sign they will lose this November.
Here’s what you need to know ahead of Trump’s visit to Nevada:
- Trump’s temporary no tax on tips policy is littered with loopholes that could leave Nevada workers behind – all while his tax breaks for billionaires are permanent. Democrats Susie Lee, Dina Titus, and Steven Horsford are fighting to strengthen no taxes on tips by making it permanent.
- Nevada has seen a sharp decline in tourism since Trump took office, attributed to a sputtering economy and international tourists being turned off by the President’s reckless tariffs and rhetoric – leading to fewer jobs and lower tips for workers.
- Roughly two in five tipped workers depend on Medicaid or get their health care through the Affordable Care Act marketplace – meaning two million tipped workers, many of whom wouldn’t qualify for Trump’s version of no taxes on tips, could lose their health care because of the Big, Ugly Law.
- Despite campaigning on lowering costs, Trump’s agenda is spiking gas prices across Nevada – with the average driver paying nearly $5 per gallon.
- Because of Trump’s Big, Ugly Law, gamblers can no longer deduct 100% of their losses. Experts say this policy change could drive gamblers offshore, jeopardize local businesses, and put thousands of Nevada jobs at risk.
- The Big, Ugly Law provides more in tax breaks to the top 1% than to the bottom 80% COMBINED – all while raising taxes on the poorest 40% of Americans.
