PROFILES IN COWARDICE: PAUL RYAN FAILS TO CONDEMN DONALD TRUMP

Tonight, Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump shockingly called for barring all Muslims from entering the United States – even if they are current members of our military serving overseas.

Previously, in reference to the Republican presidential field, Paul Ryan said that “every one of these people would be a far better president than Hillary Clinton . . . We’re having a good primary process. It’s cathartic, it’s helpful.”

And tonight, Paul Ryan declined to comment on Donald Trump’s astoundingly hateful, un-American remarks about all Muslims and Muslim-Americans in our military abroad.

Safe to assume that Donald Trump can still count on Paul Ryan’s vote? Will they still fundraise together on Wednesday, December 9th?

It only takes a sliver of a backbone to immediately condemn Donald Trump’s hateful remarks towards Muslims – including active military overseas who are fighting to protect the freedom of the United States. More than that, Paul Ryan should amend his previous statement that he would support someone as un-American as Donald Trump to lead our country,” Meredith Kelly of the DCCC.

Ryan Pledged He Would Support Trump As GOP Presidential Nominee. “Despite differences with Trump, Ryan said he would support whoever emerges as the Republican presidential nominee. ‘Every one of these people would be a far better president than Hillary Clinton,’ he said. ‘We’re having a good primary process. It’s cathartic, it’s helpful.’” [ABC News, 11/1/15]

Ryan Expected To Attend RNC Fundraiser With Trump. “Donald Trump, who has turned the GOP establishment into a punching bag in his quest for the presidential nomination, is taking a major step to smooth out the relationship with party brass: In December, he will be attending a Republican National Committee fundraiser. Trump has told the RNC that he will attend a Dec. 9 dinner in New York City benefiting the committee. The RNC Presidential Trust Dinner is also expected to draw party heavyweights, including RNC Chairman Reince Priebus and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, who this week is expected to ascend to the House speakership.” [Politico, 10/26/15]
