Profiles in Courage: Swamp Creature Ann Wagner Abandons Integrity for “Wacko Bird” Base

New reporting reveals Wagner (MO-02) called her base “wacko birds” and may have voted to cover up the truth about Jan. 6th to appease them

Swamp creature Ann Wagner (MO-02) continues to prove that she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get re-elected — even if that means voting to cover up the truth of the violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol to appease the extreme fringes of the Republican base.

New reporting this morning on a conversation between Wagner and Republican colleague Michael McCaul (TX-10) revealed that their votes against holding Steve Bannon in criminal contempt for refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena may have been a cynical move to appease their conservative base, who Wagner described as “wacko birds.” Wagner’s attempt to protect white nationalist and key witness Steve Bannon isn’t the first time she’s refused to take a stand for democracy — she also voted twice against bipartisan commissions to investigate the insurrection and determine how to prevent a similar attack in the future.

The conversation sheds light on the swampy political games playing out in Washington as Republicans like Ann Wagner grovel to the extremist wing of their party and plot out how to stay in office. To the surprise of absolutely no one, Wagner did not respond to a request for comment.

“Ann Wagner is a profile in courage and inspiration to dishonest politicians everywhere,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “Missourians must be waking up this morning grateful to be represented by a politician who can only be counted on to act in her own political best interests, not to do what is right.”
