Questions for Jason Lewis’s Town Halls

In response to Rep. Jason Lewis’s sudden change of heart when it comes to holding town halls, the DCCC released the following statement and questions for Lewis to answer:

“Congressman Lewis has bowed to grassroots pressure and is finally holding town halls after shirking his responsibility for the last year,” said DCCC Spokeswoman Rachel Irwin. “As one of the most vulnerable incumbents in Washington, Lewis is clearly feeling the heat as Angie Craig campaigns across the district listening and talking to voters. Given his absence back home, Lewis has plenty of explaining to do when it comes to his record of voting to raise healthcare costs and prioritizing tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy over the middle class.”

Questions for Jason Lewis on his announcement about town halls:

  1. Will the events be open to the public and advertised in advance? Will participants be screened?
  2. Given Jason Lewis’s obsession with dismantling the Affordable Care Act, will he vote again to raise Minnesotans’ healthcare premiums and gut protections for those with pre-existing conditions?
  3. Lewis pledged to cut down on government spending in Washington, so why did he vote to add $1.5 trillion to the deficit in order to give tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy?
  4. Will Lewis explain his record of voting for a bill that allows internet service providers to sell their customers’ personal browsing history while taking thousands from telecom companies?
  5. If Jason Lewis is as independent as he claims to be, why does he vote with the GOP 96 percent of the time in Washington?
