It’s unlike Congressman Curbelo to miss the chance to call himself a fighter for DREAMers and a champion for immigrants. But since the Trump Administration announced they had ignored the recommendations of experts and added, for the first time since 1950, a question on citizenship to the US Census, the Congressman has not only been silent in his self-promoting, but more importantly, silent in ACTUALLY standing up for the best interests of south Florida.
In contrast to Congressman Curbelo, Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen wasn’t shy in sharing her concerns.
Here’s how the Tampa Bay Times reported her reaction…
“Miami Republican Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen has said she fears that asking about citizenship could discourage an accurate count and rob South Florida, home to about 450,000 undocumented immigrants, from drawing down federal dollars for infrastructure projects and social service programs that are based on the census count.”
Even famously fickle Senator Marco Rubio found a spine and took a firm stand, albeit on President Trump’s side, saying he didn’t “see the problem” with the controversial move.
While his colleagues in Washington were at least willing to take a position, Congressman Carlos Curbelo summoned up the courage to say… nothing at all.
Brave, Congressman. Really brave.
