Overview

Tom Barrett is another corrupt politician who’s enriched himself and his corporate donors while raising prices for the rest of us. 

Summary: 

Starting 7 weeks before the general election voters in the Lansing, Detroit, and Flint media markets need to read mail and see ads on broadcast TV, district-wide OTT/CTV, Youtube, and other non-skippable digital ad platforms about how:

  • First, Barrett is a corrupt DC politician who has spent his time in office enriching himself and his donors, while voting to raise prices for the rest of us. 
    • He’s taken over $2 million dollars from corporate PACs and special interests, and has voted to make those donors richer. 
    • He even funneled more than $50,000 in campaign donations to his wife’s companies. 
    • He’s refused to face voters in-person at town halls to answer for his record.
  • Second, Barrett betrayed us and broke his campaign promises. Instead of lowering costs, he’s sided with his corporate donors to raise costs, fund Trump’s wasteful Iran war, and give tax breaks to utilities and data center developers.
    • Barrett has sold Michiganders out to the highest bidder. He’s consistently voted for higher costs on working families, including a bill that raised healthcare premiums by over 60%, and tariffs that are making the cost of everyday goods like groceries spike by over $1,700 for the average family.  
    • While taking tens of thousands from the war industry, Tom Barrett voted to spend billions of dollars on Trump’s wasteful Iran War, even after the war caused Michiganders’ costs to skyrocket.
    • An AI data center developer spent nearly a million dollars supporting Tom Barrett’s campaign. Then he voted to give data center developers over $80 billion in new tax breaks just days after a developer’s PAC gave thousands more to his campaign, despite the fact that data centers jack up the cost of electricity and harm local communities. He even voted to ban local governments from regulating AI and data centers for a decade. 
  • Voters in the Detroit media market especially should know that Barrett has taken tens of thousands of dollars from PACs for greedy utility companies jacking up our energy bills. He’s sided with them, voting to raise Michigan energy costs by $320 a year per family.

As soon as possible, voters district wide, but especially in Detroit and Flint media markets need to see ads on OTT/CTV, streaming and YouTube about how: 

  • Will Lawrence shows up for Mid-Michiganders, is unbought and independent of corporate money and DC insiders.
  • Will Lawrence has a track record of standing up to corporate interests and party bosses. He’s led the fight against AI data center development and to protect Michigan’s water. He’s fought to stop Wall Street firms from kicking families out of their homes.
