Overview

Candidate CPP (Q3, :30s)
NYC CPP: $1,450.00

Over his career, Anthony D’Esposito has repeatedly abused his power and our trust. He’s wrong for Nassau County families.

Summary

Starting now, voters across the district need to see digital ads on streaming and digital platforms – especially YouTube – that:

  • As a cop, Anthony D’Esposito abused his power and was investigated for disgracing the uniform. According to the Daily News, New York taxpayers had to pay a quarter of a million dollars as a settlement after D’Esposito was accused of lying under oath to a grand jury. He was punished for losing his gun, which was stolen by a criminal, and investigated for being “reckless,” “flashing his gun around,” and “disgracing the uniform.” He was even investigated for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

Voters need to see ads on broadcast, cable, and satellite TV in the New York City market, and voters, in particular women,  need to see ads on streaming and digital platforms – especially YouTube – across the district that:

  • In Congress, Anthony D’Esposito betrayed our trust when he blocked efforts to restore Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions. D’Esposito is running on a platform of banning abortion with no exceptions for rape and incest and has voted to make abortion a crime and punish doctors with jail time.

Starting two weeks prior to the November 5 election, voters need to see ads on broadcast, cable, and satellite TV in the New York City market and ads on streaming and digital platforms – especially YouTube – across the district that:

  • As a cop, Anthony D’Esposito abused his power and was investigated for disgracing the uniform. According to the Daily News, New York taxpayers had to pay a quarter of a million dollars as a settlement after D’Esposito was accused of lying under oath to a grand jury. He was punished for losing his gun, which was stolen by a criminal, and investigated for being “reckless,” “flashing his gun around,” and “disgracing the uniform.” He was even investigated for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

Hispanic voters across the district – especially Hispanic voters who are not registered with a political party and those who vote less frequently – also need to receive mail, digital, and radio ads in English and Spanish that:

  • D’Esposito threatens our health care and the Social Security and Medicare benefits Long Island seniors have earned and paid into for decades. He voted to cut access to Social Security, opposed Medicare negotiating lower prescription prices, and opposed a law to lower health insurance premiums.

African American voters need to hear ads on the radio, especially on WBLS-FM, WWPR-FM, WXBK-FM, that:

  • As a cop, Anthony D’Esposito abused his power and was investigated for disgracing the uniform. According to the Daily News, New York taxpayers had to pay a quarter of a million dollars as a settlement after D’Esposito was accused of lying under oath to a grand jury. He was punished for losing his gun, which was stolen by a criminal, and investigated for being “reckless,” “flashing his gun around,” and “disgracing the uniform.” He even appeared to target the black community. Every single complaint against him at the independent review board was filed by a black citizen.

Additional Resources

  • It is critical that voters see clear citations, including direct quotes from the New York Daily News, backing up D’Esposito’s record of corruption and abusing his power as a cop. The most important aspect of his record that voters need to see is that he was investigated for lying to a grand jury, forcing the NYPD to pay a settlement, followed by him being investigated for being reckless with a gun.
  • It’s critical that these messages make clear that D’Esposito is a rare bad cop, and that this is not an indictment on the larger profession. It is important for voters to hear about D’Esposito’s policing record directly from members of law enforcement. To ensure these are believable, the tone, language and imagery should be down the middle, and visuals should be heavy on citations and visual validation for these claims.
  • It is critical that voters DO NOT see on broadcast, cable, satellite, or streaming TV any mentions of racism or discrimination in D’Esposito’s police record. Black voters – but NOT a general market audience – may read in the mail and hear on the radio about his record of discrimination as it relates to his police record.
  • It’s important for voters to know that this race impacts “Nassau County”, which is an important distinction given that there will be many other House races in this media market. It is also important to remember that voters refer to this district as being “on Long Island.”
  • Key persuasion targets include independent voters, infrequent Democratic Party voters, and women. Voters of color under 65 and women need to receive ads at a higher frequency than everyone else, with a serious emphasis on YouTube for Black and Latino voters.
