Derek Merrin is an out-of-touch politician who has the wrong priorities. In Washington, Merrin would take marching orders from his corrupt donors and push an agenda that is wrong for Northwest Ohio.

Summary

Starting twelve weeks prior to the November 5 general election, voters in the Toledo media market and in Erie County need to see ads on broadcast, cable, and digital platforms including streaming, and hear ads on the radio that:

  • Derek Merrin has the wrong priorities for Northwest Ohio. Instead of working to lower costs and create good-paying jobs, Merrin is obsessed with trying to completely ban abortion without exceptions for victims of rape and incest, or to save the life of the woman.
  • In the legislature, Merrin co-led the effort to pass a total ban on abortion with no exceptions for victims of rape even when the life of the woman is at risk.
  • Merrin has been (and still is) trying to take away a woman’s right to an abortion even after Northwest Ohioans voted against an abortion ban just last year. The morning after the vote, Merrin said “we will not give up” trying to ban abortion in Ohio, even though it would override the will of the voters.
  • A bill Merrin championed would have put in prison both doctors who perform abortions and women and girls as young as 13 years old who seek an abortion.

Starting twelve weeks before the November 5 general election through Election Day, Black voters need to see ads on cable, hear ads on the radio, and see ads on digital platforms including streaming (and especially on YouTube) that:

  • Marcy has been on the frontlines fighting for fair pay, job security, and safe pensions so that working people can retire with dignity.
  • Derek Merrin supports a total abortion ban even in cases of rape, incest, or when the life of the woman is at risk.
  • Merrin pushes policies that would hurt Ohio workers, families, and veterans. He is backed by DC insiders who want to cut Social Security and Medicare.

Starting twelve weeks before the November 5 general election, voters in Defiance, Fulton, Sandusky, and Williams County need to read in mail, hear ads on the radio, and see ads on digital platforms including streaming that:

  • Derek Merrin voted for a state budget that would have raised taxes on middle class families and sent money that could fund local public schools to private schools while cutting taxes for the wealthiest Ohioans.

  • Voters need to see and hear from Republican voters who are pro-life and believe Merrin’s total ban on abortion without exceptions goes too far and is deeply wrong and unnecessarily cruel.
  • Voters need to see and hear from women in the district who have been personally impacted by abortion restrictions.
  • Black voters in the following zip codes need to see ads on digital platforms:
    • 43610, 43607, 43608, 43620, 43604, 43606, 43609
  • When communicating positive messaging, it is important to capture the familiar relationship Marcy has built with the residents in her district. Voters refer to her as “Marcy” and do not use honorifics.
