Overview

Emilia Sykes was born and raised in Akron and understands that Northeast Ohio families are working harder than ever to make ends meet. She has spent her career putting partisan politics aside to deliver for the people of Northeast Ohio. Carey Coleman, on the other hand, is a MAGA extremist handpicked by DC Republicans to rubber stamp Trump’s agenda that is driving up costs for Ohioans.

SUMMARY

Starting the tenth week through the eighth week prior to the November election, voters, especially seniors, non-college women and college men, need to see on YouTube, CTV and Meta, that Emilia Sykes is fighting to make life more affordable by cutting taxes, health care costs and housing costs.

  • Sykes pushed to eliminate junk fees and to pass her Lower Your Taxes Act to cut taxes for middle-class Ohioans. She is cracking down on corporate price gouging in grocery stores that are making food more expensive, and fighting to eliminate taxes on overtime work so that Ohioans can keep more of their hard-earned  money.
  • Sykes is fighting to lower skyrocketing health care costs that are crushing Northeast Ohio families. She will work to reverse the cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and the ACA that are kicking 469,000 Ohioans off their health care, raising premiums by over $1,200, and threatening to close our hospitals. And she’s taking on big insurance companies that jack up rates and deny claims.
  • Sykes knows that rent is too expensive and owning a home is out of reach for so many Northeast Ohio families. She has fought to lower the cost of buying, renting and selling a home, and she’s leading the fight to crack down on corporate landlords buying up homes and cutting red tape to build more affordable housing. She expanded affordable housing in East Akron and is fighting to establish a program for first responders and teachers to afford a home in the community they serve.

Additional Resources

  • Voters respond positively to seeing Emilia’s youthful and energetic personality.
  • Voters need to see Emilia surrounded by people that accurately reflect the makeup of the electorate. The electorate in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District is projected to be 92% white.
  • Campaign research indicates that federal candidates running statewide should not be expected to perform as strongly in this district as in the past.
