Overview

Henry Cuellar is a fighter for South Texas who understands the value of hard work and has a history of working with both parties to deliver real results for the region. In contrast, Tano Tijerina is an out of touch multi-millionaire who cannot be trusted:

SUMMARY

Voters need to see TV ads on both English and Spanish broadcast in Laredo and Harlingen media markets, and voters, including Democrats, need to see digital ads on streaming and digital platforms district-wide, that:

  • Congressman Henry Cuellar is the son of migrant workers and worked his way through college and law school. Cuellar knows the value of hard work and getting results. Cuellar is consistently rated one of the most bipartisan members of Congress and serves all South Texans, no matter who they vote for. He works with Democrats and Republicans to tackle rising prices, but when they are wrong, Cuellar will stand up to leaders of both parties and wealthy special interests to do what is right for South Texas.
  • Congressman Henry Cuellar has been South Texas’ most effective and experienced advocate. South Texas was once ignored, but now Henry Cuellar is bringing home billions of dollars of federal investments. Under Henry Cuellar, public schools have flourished and critical infrastructure projects, like modernizing bridges and airports, have provided jobs for hard working people. Cuellar’s push for a stronger border increased Border Patrol’s force to 22,000, creating even more good-paying jobs for the region.

Voters need to see TV ads on both English and Spanish broadcast in Laredo and Harlingen media markets, and voters, including Democrats, need to see digital ads on streaming and digital platforms district-wide, that:

  • Tijerina voted to increase his taxpayer-funded Judge’s salary every year for the last five years, boosting his pay by 38% to over $130,000. Tijerina increased his salary as he  raised property tax bills 8 times and opposed an exemption that allows homeowners to reduce their tax burden by 20%.
  • Tijerina supported increasing the cost of health insurance premiums by an average of 175% for 115,000 people in our district. Tijerina called the Affordable Care Act a “failure” and supported making it easier for big insurers to raise rates and deny care to people with pre-existing conditions, like high blood pressure and cancer. Tijerina is a multi- millionaire himself and doesn’t understand or care what everyday Texans are going through.
  • Voters also need to know that Tijerina is a corrupt politician who used his position as County Judge to make sure one of his congressional campaign donors was awarded a county government contract. After taking over $3,000 in contributions from a bidder, Tijerina pushed his donor’s higher bid through, even though there were three more qualified bids that would cost taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars less.
  • Finally, voters need to know that Tijerina supports AI policies that  could mean building mega data centers across South Texas even though they will pollute our water and suck up huge amounts of electricity. If Tijerina has his way, big tech companies and their billionaire owners will pocket huge profits, while South Texans are stuck with higher electricity bills.
