Rank-and-File Republicans Revolt Against Mike Johnson on Private Call

After weeks of backlash from the American people for shutting down the government, blocking Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva from taking her seat, and refusing to fix their health care crisis, rank and file House Republicans are starting to turn on Mike Johnson.

According to MSNBC, Rep. Jay Obernolte told colleagues:

“I think we’re gonna get to a point where it’s damaging to continue to keep the House out of session … I think we’ve gotten to that point.”

While House Republicans fret about the optics of being on vacation during a shutdown, only Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has publicly emerged as a voice of opposition to Speaker Johnson’s disastrous plan. This week, she called on the Speaker and Republicans to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits.

On CNN this morning, Greene lampooned Mike Johnson and derided Republicans for refusing to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits:

“I’m getting phone calls from people that are saying if the ACA tax credits expire, they aren’t going to be able to have health insurance. They’re going to have to drop it. But I’m hearing from people on both sides . People already on the ACA, and people already getting crushed by high health insurance premiums.”

DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“Republicans are making life harder for everyday Americans. When will Mike Johnson wake up and recognize his craven political strategy is not only disastrous for House Republicans, but his refusal to address the GOP-manufactured health care crisis will have real world implications?”
