RATING CHANGE: IA-01 MOVES TO TOSS-UP

Today, non-partisan election forecasters at Inside Elections downgraded Rep. Rod Blum’s re-election chances, shifting their rating to ‘Toss-Up.’ The new rating comes on the heels of Roll Call naming Blum the #1 most vulnerable incumbent in the country.

“Rep. Rod Blum represents the worst of Washington, having spent the last year voting against his constituents and embroiled in an ethics scandal. Iowans ready to drain the swamp of Rod Blum will have a fighter for working families in Abby Finkenauer,” said DCCC Spokesperson Rachel Irwin.

Three major election forecasters – Inside Elections, Cook Political Report, and Sabato’s Crystal Ball at UVA – now rate Blum’s race as Toss-Up.

2018 House Overview (May 16, 2018)

1st District (Rod Blum, R, re-elected 54%). Trump 49%. Democratic state Rep. Abby Finkenauer ($730,000) is the Democratic frontrunner after a slow start, outpacing former Obama appointee Thomas Heckroth ($161,000). Blum had $1.3 million in the bank but has managed to alienate some of his own party. Move from Tilt R to Toss-up.
