Last night, the non-partisan election forecaster Cook Political Report shifted California’s 22nd Congressional District from “Lean Republican” to “Toss Up.”
Cook Political’s Dave Wasserman attributes the change to David Valadao’s willingness to prop up the far-right fringes of the House GOP, including endorsing election-deniers Jim Jordan and “MAGA” Mike Johnson for speaker.
DCCC Spokesperson Dan Gottlieb:
“Valadao’s support for Trump-endorsed speakers and the far-fright fringes of his party over the last month has proven to Californians who he really is: a spineless follower without McCarthy’s coattails to fall back on. This rating change reflects what voters know to be true: Valadao is a hypocrite whose convictions change at the whim of his party’s dysfunction, and Californians are eager to reject the extremism that he’s been enabling next November.”
