Ratings Change Comes After Timmons-Goodson Trounces Hudson in Q2 Fundraising
This morning, the nonpartisan Cook Political Report shifted this race from “Likely Republican” to “Lean Republican.”
This shift comes days after it was announced that Justice Pat Timmons-Goodson raised 2.5 times as much as incumbent Congressman Rich Hudson, $845k to $329k.
Check out the analysis, in part, below:
Democrats are intrigued that the new map approved by courts in December united all of Fayetteville in the 8th CD and reduced President Trump’s 2016 margin from 15 points to nine points.
Now, Republicans acknowledge that Hudson faces a real race after Democratic former state Supreme Court Justice Pat Timmons-Goodson outraised him $845,000 to $328,000 in the second quarter.
Timmons-Goodson, the first Black woman to serve on the state’s highest court, will highlight Hudson’s votes to repeal the ACA and his reputation as a longtime Capitol Hill insider.
DCCC Spokesperson Sarah Guggenheimer released the following statement:
“As a former Justice on the Supreme Court of North Carolina, Pat Timmons-Goodson knows a thing or two about rising above politics to serve the people of North Carolina with honesty and integrity. Now she’s launching a formidable campaign against entrenched partisan Congressman Rich Hudson, someone who’s languished in the political swamp his entire career, to do so once more. Between her deep ties to the district, strong fundraising, and a new district that effectively eliminates any incumbent advantage, Timmons-Goodson is building a campaign to win.”
