Inside Elections: “There’s not much excitement from Republicans about this race”

Yesterday, the non-partisan election forecaster Inside Elections shifted Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District even further in Chris Deluzio’s favor, from “Lean Democratic” to “Likely Democratic.”

Inside Elections attributes the change to the dire lack of enthusiasm and fundraising behind Republican candidate Rob Mercuri — and the fact that Rep. Chris Deluzio has built a distinct brand taking on corporations, protecting his community, and ensuring things are made in Western Pennsylvania.

From the ratings change:

There’s not much excitement from Republicans about this race. State Rep. Rob Mercuri trails Deluzio in polling and in fundraising (he had $1 million less in the bank at the end of June) and no outside GOP groups are poised to put money into the district to help him. Move from Lean Democratic to Likely Democratic.
