RATINGS CHANGE Michigan’s 8th District Race is On the Board

Mike Bishop’s endorsement of Donald Trump continues to drag him down

In new House rankings announced this morning, the Cook Political Report has put Michigan’s 8th District race between Democrat Suzanna Shkreli and Trump Republican Mike Bishop on the board, confirming that with the toxic effect of Donald Trump at the top of the ticket, this race is becoming more competitive.

This comes one day after polling (from before this week’s sexual assault allegations against Trump) showed Shkreli within striking distance of taking Congressman Bishop out, only six points behind (41%-47%, with 11% undecided). The environment continues to improve for Democrats, with voters preferring a generic congressional Democrat over a Republican, and with Hillary Clinton winning the district.

Shkreli, an assistant county attorney who prosecutes sexual offenders and child abusers, strikes a strong contrast against freshman Trump Republican Mike Bishop, who continues to stand by his endorsement of Donald Trump. Shkreli’s latest ad, “Brags,” highlights Bishop’s remarks that Trump’s comments are “refreshing.”
