Two years ago, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and took away a woman’s right to choose.
In the two years since Derek Merrin cheered for the fall of Roe, his extreme party has worked to further restrict women’s reproductive freedoms – from working to outlaw abortion medication to voting to allow states to implement abortion bans.
Merrin himself is responsible for some of the most extreme anti-choice legislation in Ohio, leading the attack on reproductive freedom. As chair of the Ohio House Health Committee, Merrin “shepherded” the state’s six week abortion ban, which became law in the wake of the Dobbs decision. However, the anti-choice extremist did not believe that the six week ban went far enough. Prior to the Supreme Court’s ruling, he co-sponsored a total abortion ban from the moment of conception, with no exceptions for rape or incest.
But that’s not all – he also championed a total abortion ban that could punish doctors and women with life in prison if they received or performed an abortion.
DCCC Spokesperson Aidan Johnson:
“Derek Merrin can’t hide the reality of his anti-choice extremism. Ohioans know Merrin celebrated as women across the country had their reproductive freedom ripped away, and voters will hold him accountable for his continued extremism this November.”
