Garcia and Calvert Sowed Doubt in Election Results and Refused to Certify Votes
As Donald Trump faces indictment for his role in attempting to overturn the 2020 election, it’s worth remembering that vulnerable Reps. Mike Garcia and Ken Calvert were openly complicit in the former president’s election lies — which helped incite the violent insurrection that killed 5 people and injured 140 officers on January 6, 2021.
For weeks leading up to January 6th, Mike Garcia and Ken Calvert worked to sow doubt among GOP voters and refused to acknowledge the results of the 2020 Presidential Election. Mere hours after the deadly insurrection, Garcia and Calvert met the demands of the violent insurrectionists and were among the 139 House Republicans who voted against certifying the election. Ignoring the seditious violence they had just escaped, Garcia and Calvert sought to overturn the will of American voters in the wake of Donald Trump’s election loss.
When it came to uncovering the truth about the deadly insurrection, how it happened, and how we can ensure it never happens again, Garcia and Calvert sided with extreme party bosses and voted against an independent commission. When given the opportunity to create a bipartisan commission, Garcia and Calvert once again voted against uncovering the truth.
DCCC Spokesperson Dan Gottlieb:
“As Trump finally faces accountability for attempting to deny the will of the voters and inciting a deadly insurrection, Californians won’t forget that Mike Garcia and Ken Calvert share the blame. Garcia and Calvert fed into the former president’s conspiracy theories and attempted to help Trump overturn the results of a free and fair election – caving to the violent insurrectionists that stormed the capitol and injured 140 officers hours mere hours earlier.”
