In his full embrace of Donald Trump’s hateful candidacy, Congressman John Mica specifically noted that he likes Trump’s immigration stand, which was on full display last night. Donald Trump delivered a speech in Arizona that – despite promises of a “pivot” and “softening” – showed he’s as radically anti-immigrant as he’s always been. The Republican nominee redoubled his anti-immigrant rhetoric during his hate filled and un-American speech and made clear that he intends to stick with his unrealistic, extreme immigration plan:
- Build an unpopular and expensive border wall that Mexico would have to pay for
- Deny a legal pathway for those law-abiding Americans living in the shadows
- And tear families apart by mass deportation of millions of hardworking immigrants.
Mica has thrown his enthusiastic support behind Trump, specifically because of Trump’s cruel and inhumane immigration plan, and now will have to answer for it with voters this fall.
“Even after Trump launched his campaign by insulting immigrants and calling them ‘drug dealers’ and ‘rapists,’ John Mica went out of his way to praise Trump and his immigration stand. Last night, Trump just further solidified that hate-filled and un-American vision for our country,” said Christie Stephenson of the DCCC. “The fact that Mica enthusiastically supports and will vote for a presidential candidate whose extremely dangerous proposals do little to fix our broken immigration system is not only a testament to his poor judgment and failed leadership, but his willingness to put his Republican Party over our country.”
