REMINDER: Juan Ciscomani Voted to Gut Funding for Rural Hospitals and Health Clinics

Shocking no one, vulnerable Republican Juan Ciscomani is now trying to distance himself from the rural health care crisis he created.

non-partisan fact check makes it clear that Ciscomani is misleading Arizonans when he falsely claims he’s a champion for rural health care.

REMINDER: Ciscomani voted to gut Medicaid by roughly $1 trillion, devastating rural hospitals that operate on thin margins and depend on Medicaid to stay open. To cover their tracks, Ciscomani and House Republicans set up a woefully underfunded “rural health care fund” that experts say isn’t enough.

In fact, Ciscomani’s law could “lower federal Medicaid spending in rural areas by $137 billion over 10 years.” Those steep cuts are significantly larger than the rural health fund that Ciscomani is now touting.

Because of Ciscomani’s vote, rural health clinics are already closing in parts of the country.

At least five rural hospitals in Arizona are “at risk” of closing, including two just outside of Ciscomani’s district. The Arizona Hospital and Health Care Association is also warning that Ciscomani’s law will result in more than half of all Arizona hospitals “operating in the red,” forcing facilities to, “at best,” restrict services, or “at worst,” shutter their doors altogether.

DCCC Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly
“Juan Ciscomani lied to Arizonans when he said he wouldn’t touch Medicaid. Now, after voting for the largest cuts to Medicaid in history, Ciscomani is trying to recast himself as a champion for Arizonans’ health care. What a complete and utter fraud.”
