Nick LaLota doubled down on his claims that abortion rights are a state issue at his recent town hall – yet the vulnerable Republican failed to mention that he prioritized a vote to pass a GOP measure at the start of this Congress that would have punished doctors for providing reproductive care.
This isn’t the first time LaLota has put New York women in danger by pushing an extreme, anti-abortion agenda:
Following the catastrophic Dobbs ruling, LaLota applauded the decision to limit women’s freedom to choose and advocated for New York to limit its own abortion protections for women.
LaLota nodded at removing federal abortion protections by saying he believes states “[dictating] abortion policy is a step in the right direction” – despite the fact that states are passing life-threatening laws that terrorize and criminalize women for seeking abortion care.
LaLota voted to add a hyper-partisan amendment to the NDAA to restrict abortion care for armed service members and their families – prioritizing his extreme agenda over the security of our country.
LaLota is a member of the Republican Study Committee, which endorsed a total ban on abortion, without any exceptions for rape, incest or to save a woman’s life, and some forms of contraception.
Despite his anti-choice record, LaLota has repeatedlyrefused to comment on attempts to roll back abortion rights nationwide.
