As criticism mounts over Trump’s disparaging and hateful remarks, reminder that Lee Zeldin praised Trump’s so-called ‘leadership’ and foreign policy positions earlier this year
Last night, Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump shockingly called for barring all Muslims from entering the United States – even if they are current members of our military serving overseas.
The latest round of disparaging and hateful rhetoric raises serious questions about Lee Zeldin’s past support for Donald Trump’s candidacy and foreign policy positions.
As Trump made a swing through Washington to court lawmakers in September, Zeldin “broadly praised Trump’s positioning on foreign policy.” According to the ABC News piece, Zeldin even embraced Trump’s hateful and disparaging rhetoric, noting that “Americans want candid, brutally honest, sometimes politically incorrect leadership.”
And the support is not one-sided. Trump contributed to Zeldin’s campaign and helped issue a campaign robocall for Zeldin during last year’s campaign.
“As Donald Trump stoops to a new shocking low with his latest round of hateful remarks, it’s important to remember that earlier this year Congressman Zeldin praised Trump’s disparaging rhetoric as ‘leadership’ and even embraced his foreign policy positions,” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC. “Given that Zeldin has already praised Trump’s so-called ‘leadership’ and embraced Trump’s foreign policy positions; does he agree with Donald Trump that all Muslims should be banned from entering the country?”
