REMINDER: Mike Lawler Jacked Up New Yorkers’ Health Care Costs And Repeatedly Called The ACA “A Disaster”

Lawler refused to extend ACA Tax credits before they expired, causing drastic price hikes that New Yorkers are currently facing

As health care costs continue to skyrocket thanks to House Republicans letting ACA tax credits expire, Mike Lawler has no one to blame but himself for today’s health care crisis.

New Yorkers are already experiencing devastatingly higher health care costs because Lawler let ACA tax credits expire last year – with many Americans even forced to drop their coverage entirely due to higher costs.

Lawler has consistently attacked Americans’ access to health care. He:

  • Voted to pass the largest cuts to Medicaid in history – TWICE – to fund massive tax breaks for billionaires
  • Voted to kick 15 million people off of their health care
  • Put over 220,000 New Yorkers at risk of losing health care coverage and becoming uninsured
  • Cut over $100 million in revenue for local hospitals, including Northern Westchester Hospital
  • Accused NY-17 hospitals and doctors of parroting talking points and lying about the devastating Medicaid cuts hitting their communities
  • Openly admitted that he wants to repeal the ACA tax credits, stating he wants to phase them out
  • Spent years railing against the Affordable Care Act, repeatedly calling it a disaster

Make no mistake: Lawler was too much of a coward to stand up to his D.C. party bosses when it actually mattered. Now, New Yorkers are paying the price – with some Hudson Valley facilities already laying off workers and cutting critical programs.

DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Voters will remember that Mike Lawler is already responsible for skyrocketing health care prices. If Lawler was ever serious about keeping health care affordable, he would’ve taken action when there was still time to save the tax credits folks rely on from expiring to begin with.”
