Today, a near-total abortion ban in Florida, similar to the Texas abortion ban, takes effect.
While Monica De La Cruz has a clear anti-abortion record – celebrating Texas’s abortion ban and being a member of the Republican Study Committee that released a budget which calls for passing a national abortion ban with no exceptions. De La Cruz has also tried to hide her views on abortion from voters by scrubbing all mentions of abortion from her campaign website.
DCCC Spokesperson Lauryn Fanguen released the following statement:
“Today, women in Florida woke up facing a very similar and heartbreaking reality women in Texas have been living with for well over a year. They will now have to travel out of state for an abortion. When the near-total abortion ban took effect in Texas, extremist anti-abortion politicians like Monica De La Cruz celebrated the ban.
“This is the same ban that forced women like Kate Cox to leave Texas for health care, criminalized abortion, and encouraged civilians to report anyone who gets an abortion or helps someone get an abortion. Abortion rights and access in the South are quickly deteriorating and voters won’t forget that politicians like Monica De La Cruz are proudly complicit in the erosion of their rights.”
