REMINDER: On the 88th Anniversary of the Social Security Act, David Schweikert Is Still Trying to Cut it

On the 88th anniversary of the Social Security Act being signed into law, vulnerable Republican David Schweikert is celebrating by plotting to cut Arizona seniors’ hard earned benefits.

Last month, Schweikert suggested that in order to save the country, Congress needs to make cuts to Social Security.

Schweikert is a member of the far-right Republican Study Committee (RSC). The RSC recently unveiled their latest budget proposal in June which detailed plans to raise the retirement age, reduce benefits, and privatize Medicare.

In May, Speaker McCarthy, promised to create a commission to identify cuts to Social Security to appease the MAGA extremists in his conference. After getting called out for this new attack on Social Security both McCarthy and Schweikert have gone strangely silent on the status of this promised commission.

DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“David Schweikert and extreme MAGA Republicans are hellbent on making devastating cuts to Social Security – jeopardizing the health, safety, and financial security of Arizona seniors. It’s in their DNA. Today’s 88th anniversary of the Social Security Act is a poignant reminder that only one party is working to save a program that’s been a lifeline to the middle class: Democrats.”
