REMINDER: On the 88th Anniversary of the Social Security Act, John James is Still Proposing to Cut it

James’ Budget Would Gut Social Security

On the 88th anniversary of the Social Security Act being signed into law, vulnerable Republican John James is celebrating by plotting to cut seniors’ hard earned benefits.

House Republicans in the Republican Study Committee unveiled their latest budget proposal in June which detailed plans to raise the retirement age, reduce benefits, and privatize Medicare. One of those Republicans is Michigan’s very own John James.

In May, Speaker McCarthy promised to create a commission to identify cuts to Social Security to appease the MAGA extremists in his conference. After getting called out for this new attack on Social Security he has gone strangely silent on the status of this so-called commission. What are Speaker McCarthy and John James hiding?

DCCC Spokesperson Aidan Johnson:
“Today’s anniversary is a reminder that John James plans to put Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block, ripping away seniors’ and working families’ hard earned benefits. James’ agenda may play well with the MAGA base, but it will cost him the election next November.”
