REMINDER: On the 88th Anniversary of the Social Security Act, Mike Garcia Is Still Trying to Cut it

On the 88th anniversary of the Social Security Act being signed into law, vulnerable California Republican Mike Garcia is celebrating by plotting to cut seniors’ hard earned benefits.

House Republicans in the extreme MAGA Republican Study Committee – including Garcia – unveiled their latest budget proposal in June which detailed plans to raise the retirement age, reduce benefits, and privatize Medicare.

In May, Speaker McCarthy, who Garcia votes with 96% of the time, promised to create a commission to identify cuts to Social Security to appease the MAGA extremists in his conference. After getting called out for this new attack on Social Security both McCarthy and Garcia have gone strangely silent on the status of this promised commission.

DCCC Spokesperson Dan Gottlieb:
“Mike Garcia and extreme MAGA Republicans are hellbent on making devastating cuts to Social Security – jeopardizing the health, safety, and financial security of California seniors. It’s in their DNA. Today’s 88th anniversary of the Social Security Act is a timely reminder that only one party is working to save a program that’s been a lifeline to the middle class: Democrats.”
