Rep. Andrea Salinas to NYT: Reproductive Rights is a Matter of “Empowering Women”

New reporting from the New York Times highlights Latino voters’ overwhelming support for abortion rights – and how Oregon Congresswoman Andrea Salinas is connecting with voters on the issue as extremist Republicans push draconian abortion bans across the country.

Even without “as much as [her] competitors to put out glossy mailers or fancy television ads,” last cycle, Salinas leaned into “the issue of abortion rights as a matter of ‘empowering women to make their own personal choices with their doctor’” – adding that access to reproductive rights helped fuel her victory in a district home to Oregon’s largest Latino population.

A member of the Pro-Choice Caucus, Rep. Salinas has worked tirelessly to protect reproductive rights nationwide, including cosponsoring the Women’s Health Protection Act to restore abortion access across the country and the Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom to protect those who travel out-of-state for abortion care.

DCCC Spokesperson Dan Gottlieb:
“Oregon women and families have a proven champion for abortion rights in Rep. Andrea Salinas. As House Republicans work to restrict access to reproductive health care, Rep. Salinas’ message to Latino voters on defending and protecting these fundamental freedoms will continue to resonate come November.”
