Rep. Burgess Owens Voted “No,” Took the Dough on Key Infrastructure and Jobs Investments

Voters in UT-04 deserve better than a hypocrite who votes against his own community

Vulnerable Republican Rep. Burgess Owens once again voted “no” and took the dough by voting against the landmark INVEST Act, which contains critical investments in infrastructure and job creation, including millions directly for Rep. Owens’ district at his own request.

Take a look at where the investments that Rep. Owens voted against will be headed:

  • $5.5 million for the Midvalley Connector in Murray, West Valley, and Salt Lake City
  • $3 million for the 700 West Project in South Salt Lake City
  • $3 million for the 4700 South Project WVC in West Valley City
  • $2 million for the 1300 East/Richmond Street Reconstruction Project in Salt Lake City
  • $400,000 for the Neffs Canyon Trailhead Redesign Project in Salt Lake City

When Rep. Owens is home in the district this recess, don’t be surprised if he spends time touting the very investments he voted against. Just like when Rep. Owens voted against direct relief funds for his community in the American Rescue Plan, he voted no, but was all too happy to take the dough.

“Rep. Owens is so out-of-touch with his district that he is repeatedly voting against needed investments in his community in an attempt to score cheap political points,” said DCCC Spokesperson Adrian Eng-Gastelum. “Families in Utah’s 4th district have Democrats to thank for the good-paying jobs and much-needed infrastructure investments headed their way — not Rep. Owens, who stood against them when it counted.”
